Neighbourhood House · Gormandale, Victoria
A house in the middle of town, still making room.
A house where you can meet friends and make new ones. Meals, a garden, a workshop — and the digital skills that help rural people work, create and earn without leaving Gippsland.

Who we are
The front door of a small town, adapting on purpose.
Gormandale Community House Inc has been part of this district since 31 December 1989. We are a small, registered Australian charity: a neighbourhood house on Main Street where people come to eat, grow, make, and sit with someone who knows their name.
That work has not changed. What has changed is the world around it. Alongside the garden, the kitchen and the workshop, we now teach the digital crafts — AI, video, websites, social media — that let rural people take part in work and income that used to live only in the city.

Mission
What we are for
To welcome, nourish and skill the people of Gormandale and the surrounding districts — through food, gardens, arts, friendship and, as the world changes, practical digital capability — so every neighbour can belong, contribute, and make a living.
Vision
Where we are headed
A resilient rural community that is never left behind by technology. The Community House remains the warm front door to a meal, a garden bed and a conversation — and a place where digital skills sit beside the kitchen and the workshop as everyday tools for a good life.
What we do
The programs that keep the House busy.

Food & company
Community lunch
Very low-cost meals, open to all, with a particular welcome for older and isolated neighbours.

Food relief
Pay It Forward
Our food relief program — groceries and essentials passed on quietly, without a form that feels like a test.

Food relief
Emergency food relief
Short-term food aid when something has gone wrong — a bill, a disaster, a sudden gap.

Growing
Community garden
A garden open to all, still being improved, that feeds programs, neighbours and the Pay It Forward shelves.

Making
Art program for all
Arts education without an audition. Bring what you have; leave with something you made.

Making
Woodworking
A community workshop for useful things: repairs, small furniture, and the satisfaction of a square edge.

Digital era
The House is learning the tools the rest of the world already uses.
We are not replacing the garden with a laptop. We are adding a second workbench. Participants learn AI for work and career, digital arts, editing, social media and vlogging, websites, basic web apps, and how to host and earn from what they make.
- AI for work and career
- Digital arts
- Video and image editing
- Social media, content and vlogging
- Websites you can actually publish
- Basic web app development
This week, in practice
Three things the House still does every week.
Feed people
Community lunch, vegetarian cooking, Pay It Forward and emergency food. The oldest work we do, and still the most used.
Grow and make
The garden, woodworking, the art program, library outreach. Skills with a result you can hold.
Get people online for real
Not a brochure about ‘digital inclusion’. Sessions that end with a published page, a posted video, or a job application sent.
Partnerships we are building
Digital grants and nonprofit deals, assessed for what they do here.
